Worst Homewarranty Don’t ever buy

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Hi Worst , Worst, Worst. Total cheater. I bought this policy in spite of seeing various negative reviews, I assumed might be some house owners would have bad experiences but let’s give some chance to them. But I will tell you, don’t ever buy this policy. They will claim many things to do as per contract but will not do anything. 1. They will say they will replace the faulty Unit but in reality it will never happen, for same faulty unit if you do recall, every time they will charge 100 USD as trade fees. 2. No good vendors in their list. 3. No recall in this company, even if they will say about but no recall, you will have to pay money for every visit, and vendors will not fix any problem. Last month we had problem in our AC, and we struggled almost 2 months and due to running faulty AC our electricity bill shot up twice. You will keep calling them for same problem And they will keep assigning the same vendor and problem will not be solved and they will charge 100 dollar trade fees. Don’t buy. Please

HVAC "fine print"

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
The plan says it covers the HVAC system. Oh, except if a technician evaluates it and deems it needs a "modification" they don't cover "modifications" therefore they did not cover the system. Had to pay out of pocket for new system. As a realtor I have used them for several years. I will not be recommending them again. They did not take care of my client. Called my representative about the claim. He said he would check in to it. A week later someone called back and said it wouldn't be covered because it needed a "modification" which equals no coverage. They misrepresent their coverage in my opinion.

All home warranty companies use the “mod cost” form of denials, in order to pass some of their costs on to the customer. The reason for this is that the warranty company forces their contractors to work for them at below sustainable pricing levels.

The contractors study the contract to see what is not covered, and tack on non-covered charges to the homeowner wherever they can, to offset the loss. They are not making any money, simply trying to cap their losses. It is appalling how warranty companies (all of them) rip off customers and contractors alike. Realtors should know the plans are worthless but serve a purpose—helping close a sale—which is all that matters to a realtor’s purse.

I’m sure you hate to have an unhappy client who purchased a house and shortly afterwards faced unexpected repairs. And you probably used your sales threats to the HWA rep. Well guess what? All the warranty companies squeeze the pennies out of the contractors’ and customers’ Arsses, not their own.

They all suck. Smart homebuyers would have a REAL AC contractor check out the AC system BEFORE they buy the home, and NOT use a worthless home inspector who isn’t even allowed by EPA law to check the freon. The truth about home inspectors is that they have the same interest as the realtor—selling the house, and getting inspections from more realtors. That, and they have never actually done any of the service work themselves, and their license credentials are that they took a course online in home inspections.

They know nothing about HVAC systems and shouldn’t even be checking the refrigerant levels, by law. A wise buyer would have the system inspected by an HVAC specialist and then if needed, negotiate the cost of a system into the price of the house, to the horror of the realtors and sellers.

Air Condition Repair

The fan blade bracket on the condensing unit broke & destroyed the unit. Waited 4 days for repairman. He wrote on the order that the condensing unit be replaced & gave me a list totaling $1745.00 that was not covered almost nothing was covered. They suggested I take a cash out but still refuse to tell me the amount. I am now going on 3 weeks with no air. They always say they will get back to in24-48 hours. My real estate person is now on it & she has promised never to use this company again as have all the people I know who have this plan. If I could rate your company it would be a -0. Beware people

It is now 4 weeks since my AC broke. There has been no contact from HWA.

Due to my age & the 90 weather we have been experiencing I have had to have the problem taken care of. The "cash out" that was suggested has been totally ignored by the HWA This company is a total scam & each time u talk to customer service u r talking to some who is out of the country. I believe they just want to wear u down so u will quit & then they will sell another Warranty to some other unsuspecting person. These warranties r generally sold thru real estate agents & it's time they be exposed as the scamming company they r.

If anyone doubts my word just pull up the Home Warranty of America complaint list. They have 1.9 rating out of 10

Good Afternoon! We regret to hear you have had a poor experience with your AC claim.

I certainly understand how inconvenient it can be to need home repairs and then find some items are excluded in your terms which just adds to the frustration. We would be happy to look into your cash out option but we need access to your account.

I have repeatedly typed in the e mail address digitalcare@***e warranty.com & it goes blank. I was told again yesterday that they would be contacting me back to access the account for a cash out.

That has not happened. They always say they will contact in 24-48 hrs.

I have contacted the Better Business Bureau & also Channel6 trouble shooters. The warranty is worthless I I hope to keep this from happening to any one else.

Less than Exceptional

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I purchased a Home Warranty of America plan to give me peace of mind and protection against the stress and expense of unexpected home repairs. However, HWA has been less than exceptional because my refrigerator has been out for about 4 months. Also, during the entire time, we didn't hear from a representative until we called HWA. In addition, I didn't purchase a HWA plan to be told by HWA that I can find a contractor to fix it. The catch is they offered us a check that wouldn't cover the parts and labor. We would be responsible the rest of the bill. Their offer was a slap in the face and shows HWA does not value me as a customer. They have no explanation and compassion for us not having a refrigerator for 4 months.

Not living up to Warranty

Aug 5th the racket holding the fan motor on the Condensing Unit broke while it was running & did extensive damage. HWA gave me the name of a Htng. & AC Co. They came out 5. days later recommended replacement. They called back & said I would have to pay $1745.00 in non-covered charges to fix it. They suggested I might want to take a "Cash Out" which I knew nothing about. I asked how much that would be & was told they could not give me that information. I ask their Htng. & Air Co for a price to replace the whole unit & they were $600 higher than the man I have used in the past. Every time I call customer service I'm told they will call me back in 24-48 hours. This has gone on for 2 weeks. I'm no closer to resolving this. Anyone considering using this company had better read their 1.9 out of. 10 rating and the long list of complaints similar to mine.

AC not being fixed

I placed a call on May 3, 2018 to have the airconditioning looked at due to it not cooling the upstairs of my house. They send one company 10 days later - he changes out a part. AC works for 5 days and goes back to not cooling the upstairs. I call HWA again and ask to have the same contractor come back because the problem is not resolved. Make appointment again another 10 days for the contractor to show up. He never shows up and when I call to find out where he is...I'm told by contractor that he is sick in bed and won't know when he can get out to fix the AC! I call HWA again and ask to send somebody else out. Week later another contractor shows up and checks the Freon meter, says the meter is bad and they will have to order the part. I'm still waiting for the part to be authorized and the contractor to come back. It is now June 25, 2018! I've been calling every other day to find out what the status is and I keep getting the same script from the customer service reps...I have paid $600 for the warranty and now $100 service call to the first contractor and another $100 to the second contractor who still cannot fix the problem. This is just absurd.

You paid $800 total for a $2000 repair. You paid the insurance company, not the contractor.

Therein lies the problem.

The amount of money is not enough, and you’ve paid the wrong people to begin with. The warranty company pocketed your money and it is not getting to the people actually doin the work and providing the parts.

Misdiagnosis

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Had one of their technicians come out and diagnose a problem where we weren’t getting hot water in the kitchen only.

The technician said that he needed for walls to be open and they were the hot water lines and the cold water lines were crossed . I had to pay for someone to open up the wall in order for them to do this.

I had it done, and in return there was no problem with the lines being mixed up (it cost me $200 along with the $75). Truly their technician didn’t know what he was talking about Very unhappy customer

DO NOT TRUST HWA HOME WARRANTY

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

DO NOT TRUST HWA HOME WARRANTY. I had the Diamond package with green replacement and HWA refused to go or the contract to replace a unrepairable electric cooktop with one that fit - they selected a cheaper and smaller model.

I pointed out that the replacement was not the same size but that there was a model (same brand and features) that was slightly larger in size but $100 more, HWA said it was an upgrade and I would have to pay $118. 1st HWA refused to agree ro replace the cooktop with one that actually fit, which was readily available simply because it cost more. 2nd, HWA charged an upgrade fee merely because the model that actually fit was more expensive. And, moreover HWA wanted to charge more than the MSRP difference - HWA charged 118 when the MSRP difference is 100.

HWA said they have a supply agreement with GE for appliances, which would mean a price less than the MSRP but they are charging more.

As a warning - HWA will interpret the agreement as they determine, such as saying that the term "readily available" means readily available based upon internal company policy and that HWA will determine dimensions of the replacement. They will not negotiate, listen to any alternative solutions or give any concessions. HWA offers a take it or leave it option and if you don't take, there is no other option other than to sue them. It is a horrible company and has poor customer service.

My advice is to not use HWA but if you are here, my guess is that it is too late and you are having the same experience as me.

Also, do not fall for the trick of contacting the so called "Office of the President" often mentioned in BBB responses from HWA. This is not the office of the presidwnt but merely a complaint department that will not resolve anything, will not answer your questions and will not negotiate.

This so called Office of the President will give you the "take it or leave it option" and tell if you do not take their option, your claim will be closed and you get nothing. This was nothing but a trick to prevent you from filing a BBB complaint.

Ac not working/ 90 degrees out

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I called them the first time for furnace not working and they send someone from Comfortable Climate located in Joliet IL. The technician changed a part and it seemed like they fixed it. We had to pay $75 for the service call, which was basically the cost of the service. One week later my furnace/ac is out again. This time they set us up with the same company and the appointment was supposed to happen today between 2pm-5pm. They never showed up, kept lying in the phone they would be here right after 5pm but didn’t show up. At 6:05pm I called HWA, and told them about the situation. They offered to call Comfortable Climate to update me on the appointment just to come back 2 min later to tell me that Comfortable Climate cancled the appointment! Then they offered me to set up a different appoinment on a different date with a different company. I had to fight with them over the phone that I needed the service done today because I have a two year old at home and need the ac/ furnace fixed. I told them that it was their fault for working with lame companies, not mine. I continually asked to talk to a supervisor but they refused to put a supervisor on the phone. At the end of the day my wife waisted a day of work, my 2 year old is sweating, my ac is still out, and HWA and Comfortable Climate are still in business. I will not let this one go and I am planning to sue them.

HWA requires Comfortable Climate to be the service provider of the recall visit, because of the financial arrangement they have. Comfortable Climate might dodge your calls because they have already looked at the system and the failure is more than a small repair.

They won’t get more money than the minimal service fee flat rate, regardless of the system’s failure. If they bill more than that, HWA will cut that vendor’s call volume.

Dishwasher replacement

My dishwasher was not working properly. The tech came out ( $ 100 for a few minutes ) and said it couldn't be fixed. He sent in his report that it needed to be replaced. More than a month later, I have still been unable to get anyone to tell me when I could expect that to happen. When you phone in, the people don't even know what is going on, they never have a supervisor around and even though they supposedly note in the system for a supervisor to phone you back, that will not happen. There is no access to anyone at a higher level, as is the case in a normal business. My warranty is up for renewal in August - that's not going to happen.

Sewer backing up into tub is not an emergency??

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I contacted HWA to tell them that flushing the toilet results in sewage coming up through the tub drain. Agent "um & uh" says there are to vendors who service our area and she tried contacting both with no success.

From there, she took it upon herself to assign our claim to one of the non-answering vendors (60+ miles away), meaning we will have to pay all charges if we call a plumber who is available to come out now, then wait four weeks to be reimbursed for "covered charges" from HWA. Agent um & uh said she'll try to contact the vendor she assigned to our claim when she gets to work in the morning. What kind of fly-by-night warranty company is this?? We have five people in our home, none of which can use the toilet, shower, or sink.

Why does agent um & uh get to decide who we are forced to use of the vendors available in our area? If I call in any available plumber why are they required to call HWA prior to fixing the problem to obtain authorization to perform the needed services only for me to have to pay the entire bill out of my pocket then wait a month for HWA to reimburse me??

Absolutely unimpressed with HWA as I have no use for a company whose repertoire of "professional" vendors don't answer their phones, and take it upon themselves to decide which unresponsive vendor they're going to award your claim to. It's no wonder HWA has so many negative reviews!

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We certainly understand how frustrating it can be to wait for a vendor to be available to complete the repair.

As with any warranty company, we have contracted vendors who we contact to ensure they have availability to work your claim. From there, they contact you directly to set up an appointment for the technician to visit your home.Unfortunately, depending on your area, this may take longer as the vendor has to be contracted with us. For this reason, we do offer the option for you to find your own vendor and schedule an appointment. However, we do ask that they contact us before completing any work in order to ensure that the claim would be covered under your warranty, per their diagnosis. If there are additional questions we may help with regarding this claim or anything in the contract please feel free to reach out to our Live Chat team at www.hwahomewarranty.com for assistance.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We have had several smaller issues that Home Warranty of America has been happy to send someone out to officially diagnose the issue but would never cover the payment of service despite knowing what they were sending a tech out to do. This is a total scam because having someone out to help diagnose an issue is typically free so the fact that we have to pay to have a company we haven’t even selected diagnose an issue is bogus. It seems like a great idea to purchase this coverage as we thought however they don’t honor anything that they claim. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY AS WE HAVE!

We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback regarding claim coverage and trade call fees. As per the contract, the trade call fee is due to the technician anytime they visit your home and that fee covers the time and diagnosis of the technician visit.

Based on the issue determined by the licensed technician, your claim may be covered depending on the contract terms and conditions. We are always happy to review the coverage options with you when you initially file a claim to see if it would be covered under your warranty. If there are any additional questions or concerns we may help with regarding your contract coverage or specific claims feel free to reach out to our Live Chat team via www.hwahomewarranty.com for assistance.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
At the time I am writing this, I have been waiting over a month to get an issue with my duct work repaired. When I first filed the claim, I will admit, they got a company out to my home pretty quick. Once the contractor filed the quote with home warranty of America I sent in the necessary paper work. It took about a week to hear back. Within that week, I called a few times to get a status...Apparently, the person that you speak with about your claim on the phone has to send an email to an “authorizer” and every time they say “I’ve done everything I can do, you should hear back in 24 hrs.” We’ll, I’ve been waiting 33 days..or 792 hours!!! Every time I call I get the run around. Every time I call I’m on hold an average of 10-15 minutes while they “review my claim” After the week went by, I got a call stating the work was approved, so I scheduled an appointment with the contractor. In order to get the work done, my wife took a day off of work (without pay) to be there...the day before the appointment the contractor called and told us that the home warranty company has an issue with the price and is getting a second opinion. So...almost a week later another contractor shows up, who could care less about being there or doing the work. After the second opinion contractor came by I didn’t hear anything for about a week. Come to find out, it took about that long to get the quote in. I got another call telling me the work had been approved. When I tried to schedule that appointment, the contractor told me there was a billing issue with the home warranty company. Today I’ve asked about the cash out option, and I’m waiting my “24 hrs” to see if it’s approved. This has been by far the worst customer experience I have ever had. I honestly think they try to wait you out so they don’t have to pay. Good luck to anyone that uses this company, I truly hope this is an exception. I will never recommend this company to anyone. As a matter of fact, if you do use them, cut your losses and pay for another home warranty from any other company. It doesn’t even matter who, because I’m sure they will be better than home warranty of America.
